Family Roadtrip! The One Where They Celebrate 25 Years! Day 2

Day 2 started off in Gaylord. We really just needed a place to stop for the night and we found a great Best Western to stay at. We gassed up and hit the road. (Gas was about 50 cents cheaper in Gaylord than Marquette). Our first stop today was the Detroit Zoo!

I think the penguin enclosure was my favorite area. The tunnels you can walk through while the penguins swim and play around you are AWESOME! Another bonus was that on a hot day like today, it was a nice cool place to hang out.

We had a great visit there, and reminisced to when Dane was little and only took photos of animal "butts" at the Legoland Zoo Safari. Today it was Allan's turn to do the same. He may be releasing a new coffee table book of his Zoo Animal Butt Photography after the trip, stay tuned.......

Our original thought for tonight was to venture to Olander Park near Toledo for some fossil hunting. However, due to the Independence Day Holiday, the park is closed. So we cancelled our hotel reservation near there and decided to head straight toward Columbus.  We stopped in Marion to eat at Sonic. Dane says they have the best burgers and then we found our hotel in Columbus for the night.

Erica sent me a photo of Flovis hanging out at the campground :). We are excited to bring him home after our trip.
