The Toledo Zoo

Another great day at another great zoo, we were at the Toledo Zoo today!









We were a little disappointed because the hippoaquarium was under construction, so we had to see the hippos in their winter habitats. However, there were a lot of other great animals to see in wonderful habititats: Dane's favorite animal was a sloth bear, aka SLOTHY! He was so excited to finally see a sloth bear. (He had been talking about meeting this bear for weeks!)

Of course, our trip to the gift shop included a stuffed sloth bear toy purchase!

I had a hard time choosing a favorite. I was pretty impressed with the rhinos though:
After the zoo, we drove out of Ohio and into Indiana for the night.
We will drive to Chicago tomorrow!

The Quest for Megalodon Day 6

  We spent almost 10 hours (with a few breaks) in the mud today.  Some people go to Disney, some people go to the beach..... We tend to go on big adventures and dig in the dirt.  Today was one of those epic dig in the dirt kind of days.  We had some wonderful tour guides with Palmetto Fossil Excursions. We spent 6+/- hours digging at their Lightening Site for the first part of our day. We moved a lot of dirt.... The first big find of the day goes to Dane... He was pretty geeked to have this fossil checked off of his bucket list! His first Megalodon tooth! Then, I found a big chunk of baleen whale jaw with shark took markings on it!  We found oodles of other teeth.  It was hot in the sun, but the shade umbrellas helped a lot! The Quest For Megalodon Day 7

Leaving Summerville this morning was challenging. We just wanted to go back to the dig sites! However, we knew it was time for us to start the second part of our trip, the long drive home! Of course, we have quite a few days of exploring ahead of us, but we have completed our dig and quest!  (Well, at least for now!) We split up our driving today with a trip to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. This aquarium is by far our favorite of the aquariums we have been to so far.  Dane's gaming buddy, "Tacko" met us at the aquarium for the afternoon. It was nice to see her again!  The tank with the whale shark is my favorite. We went through that section twice. It was pretty busy there today! I also went live on and off throughout the day. Our buddy Liv was sad that she was not on this trip with us, so I made sure to "go live" so she could participate in today from afar!  After the aquarium, we drove north to Chattanooga for the night.  However, we had a "pit stop...

The Quest for Megalodon Day 8

  We started this morning in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Our first stop this morning was at Rock City. The road up to Look Out Mountain brought us back into Georgia.  There were some skinny passes to go through as we hiked around the gardens and a lot of gnomes were out and about. The lookout was amazing..... You could see 7 different states! So many cool things to see... including some bridges, caves, and waterfalls! You'll have to check out our photo album (linked at the bottom of the post to see more!) I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.  Then, we drove to the Earth Experience, the Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History.  This neat little museum had a TON of specimens from the Baisch Ranch! We had an opportunity to talk with some of the paleontologists there.
